What an emotionally packed story with so much depth in such a short novella. I loved this book and felt so much pain for the character of Christopher who went through so much at such a young age, was mature and strong beyond his years, and adored and cared for his mother as best he could. The writing style of Patrick Cassidy was exceptional, my first novel of his and I wait for the remainder of this saga with much anticipation. Not a novel for the faint hearted or those looking for a happy ending, it may come but not in Episode 1.

For those interested below is a little pit of the story behind the emotions it bought up in me

Christopher is a 19 year old who is part Native American and part white. He works as a stripper to maintain a somewhat modest living for himself and his mother, while also studying engineering at school. His father, a white man who introduced his mother to heroin, left them years ago after torturing both mother and son.

When his mother overdoses his father re-enters his life refusing to allow Chris to take her back to her people for a proper native burial. He does all he can to return his mother to her people to not only find horror at the reservation but family members that refuse to help or even acknowledge their existence.

The ending of Chris just walking off into the knight crying for his mother and the anger he felt for all that hurt her and his confusion of where he fits in, the white world or the native world was a perfect end point for an already perfect book.

This is a really great story line so far. Can't wait for the other parts to come out. Definitely got it setup to get updates.
Silly no depth. Made me angry that I wasted my time. Would have been better if it did not waste my time.
Good book. I would recommed it to others. I like reading books that's in a series. I can't wait to read the other books to the series.
Unfortunately, this novel did not appeal to me even though the writing and content were exceptional. Other readers will probably find it extremely appealing.
It felt like it was a section taken out of the middle of a book. I couldn't get connected to the character. It kind of confused me I guess. Could be a good story if you had a beginning and a end. Not even prequel material at this time.
The theme of the story is a young Indian/Caucasian man who works as a stripper to support himself and his drug-addicted Indian mother. Most of the story deals with how he reconciles his cultures, and finally how he handles his mother's death. I should add that serialized short stories do not appeal to me. I prefer full length novels.
